The therapy team at Brookside Rehabilitation & Care is committed to your recovery success. This group is comprised of registered physical, occupational, and speech therapists. Together, our therapy staff will provide a customized treatment plan designed to help you reach your maximum potential and return to the activities that you enjoy.

Rehabilitation services are provided in therapy areas that have been designed specifically for therapy to ensure your comfort and privacy during therapy sessions. We are here to deliver quality care designed to exceed both your needs and expectations.

Our therapy team will work with you, your physician, and our nursing staff to maximize independence and achieve recovery goals as quickly as possible. Occupational Therapy

Our occupational therapists specialize in upper extremity injury, trauma, dysfunction and pre/post surgical rehab. They are focused on maximizing independence with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing and eating. In order to optimize function and mobility, our therapists use several techniques and train both residents and families in the use of specialized equipment.

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy is designed to improve overall functional mobility skills following a variety of acute or chronic medical conditions. Examples include the ability to ambulate and balance training. We employ innovative approaches designed to maximize function and minimize pain. Our physical therapists specialize in lower extremity injuries, trauma, dysfunction, and pre/post surgical rehab.

Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy seeks to help patients improve their ability to communicate. The primary role of our speech therapists is to assist with swallowing dysfunction, communication and cognition. Some examples include abilities such as speaking, swallowing, problem solving, critical thinking, and reading.

Wiihabilitation

Our therapy team utilizes many innovative techniques to help you recover quickly. Wiihabilitation is a specialized program we have developed using the Nintendo Wii Game System. Wii is a wireless, motion-sensitive video game console that uses body movement which is similar to traditional therapy exercises. Ultimately, using the Wii can improve strength, endurance, fine motor skills, balance and range of motion through simulated games such as baseball, bowling, and golf. Because Wii therapy is so much fun, you will actually look forward to your therapy sessions!

Bariatric Services

At Brookside Rehabilitation & Care, the only licensed skilled nursing facility in Yancey County, we are pleased to offer bariatric services. With the addition of the equipment needed to provide specialized care, we are now able to admit patients up to 500 pounds. Our team of caregivers, dietary staff and therapists work together to provide a comfortable, positive and healing environment for our bariatric patients.
